It's hard to find a good dog bed big enough for a Dane that doesn't cost a fortune. A RMGDRI supporter came up with a clever solutions to this problem, which she posted to our Facebook page:
"Hello! My husband and I rescued Georgia back in March. I just wanted to
post one of our wallet friendly solutions to a dog bed! We know that
those large factory made beds are expensive and most of the time not
even big enough for our large lovelys. Well we were in Walmart the
other day and bought 16 pillows for $2.50, a king size fleece blanket
for $25, and some safety pins for $3. We built our own bed for much
less and now (since Georgia slobbers!) I can remove the blanket, switch
it out with another, and throw it in the wash! Just thought I would share in case someone is looking for a cheaper/easier way to do something :)" - Molly Connolly Murphy
Other ways to build your own bed:
- Buy a couple of old comforters at a thrift store, fold them and stack them for a washable, wallet-friendly solution. If you want, you can also buy a used duvet cover and tuck the folded comforters into it for a more elegant look.
- Crib mattresses are big enough for some Danes. For a bed cover, just use a crib sheet.
Second-hand bedding is usually very inexpensive (it even beats WalMart!) so go to Goodwill and get creative!
