Ever been to a nursing home? If that's where you lived, wouldn't you miss your dog? Exactly. RMGDRI volunteer Dave Hopkins has been taking his Dane, Malbec (adopted from RMGDRI, of course!) to visit the folks at the Castle Rock Care Center, in Douglas County, Colorado. Dave says, "After going through a very brief tour and orientation we both got our volunteer name tags. Many of the residents just "light up" when they see him coming down the hall or poking his nose into their room. They seem to particularly like the big dogs, and he just loves the attention."
The Castle Rock Care Center is having a pet costume party on Friday, October 22. Pets can attend in costume (Malbec is going as Secretariat!) Contact Karen Brennan, (kmb4131@yahoo.com), who is the Assistant Activities Director at the Castle Rock Care Center, for more information on the party...or if you'd like to find out about bringing your dog in for visits to some seniors who would like a little more canine in their life.
