Dogs & Water

As the temperatures rise, many dog owners take trips to the lake, river, etc. with their dogs in tow.  Here are some water rules to consider when taking fido.

• Supervise your dog in and around water.
• Don't force your dog into the water; it will only raise his/her fear level.  Learning to swim is a process.
• Don't allow your dog to swim in water you wouldn't swim in yourself.
• Do be sure your dog has a solid recall.  Practice this every time you are in the water.
• Do make sure your dog is wearing a properly fitted, quality canine life jacket during training activities.
